I am telling you about Ajanta caves only.

The Ajanta caves were initially meant to be Hindu temples. However, during the Gupta dynasty, the Ajanta caves became a Buddhist retreat and there were hundereds of paintings and sculptures in the caves which show scenes from the life of the Buddha as well as events from other periods in ancient history.
